Eleanor's Birth

I want to make sure that E gets the same recognition as her siblings, so I wanted to go back and catch up on her birth since we missed posting it originally.

I had my regular check on the 5th. Had been getting high BP readings since the previous Friday and we decided to monitor them through the weekend. I was still getting high numbers in the office on Monday. He sent me to the hospital for induction at 10pm that night.

Induction was started with Cytotec, and pit started around 8am tues morning. Contractions came on strong and I decided to get the epidural around 1130 because otherwise I would have had to wait until anesthesiologist was done with 2 c-sections at 130. I'm not allowed to walk around due to BP issues, and laboring laying down is no fun... I was dilated to 9 around 1220 and my doctor was contacted and then on his way. About this time the baby's heart rate started to drop to 40-60bpm. Two nurses came in and started flipping me side to side to get it back up. Then my L&D nurse checked me and said it was bright red blood.  Luke and Mom both noticed something wasn't right.

They called a category 3 for the baby and extra nurses from the nicu came in. Then someone asked if there was anyone in the hospital who could deliver me bc the baby needed to come now. There was no one.

The three nurses decided they were delivering the baby now. Pulled my legs up to rupture my water and it went everywhere!!!! They didn't even have me push with contractions--they just said to push. They were so encouraging and we all fought to get her out quickly.  It was really hard because I couldn't feel anything due to the epi--it was the strongest I've ever had--I couldn't feel my legs. I pushed a couple times, but had a hard time holding the push.  Then Luke counted the next several times and she came in about 6-8 pushes. She was very blue and the cord was around her neck once. She did not cry for a bit, he didn't get to cut the cord, and they took her straight over to the table. I remember praying over and over in my head that she be ok, and caring for nothing else happening in that room right then.... I can't even remember when they told me she was a girl... I cried and cried when she finally cried and they held her up for me to see her.  It still makes me choke up thinking about how close we were to losing her....

My doctor came about two min after she was out and said "I missed it!" He said he had run red lights but got stuck in traffic.

The placenta had some clotting which indicated it was detaching during labor. Which is also why the bright red bleeding. It was the scariest moment of my whole life and I feel those nurses saved our baby's life.

Eleanor Rae Proffitt is amazing!  She was born at 12:39pm on November 6, 2012.  She was our littlest at 6lb 3oz and 18.5 inches long.  I really felt she was going to be another boy--I'm officially awful at guessing babies' genders.... I've been wrong all three times now.  We don't have as many pictures from her birth since it was so fast but I will share a few.

Catching up...

So we are officially bad parents...   We have not blogged for almost a year and a half.  But boy has our life been busy!  Whew!!!!!!

Here are the top 10 things that happened this past year (that I can think of!):

10. Pierson turned 2!  How is time flying that fast?

9.  Amelia turned 5!  EEK!  Kindergarden is just around the corner.

8. We sold our house Finally!!!!!  We all miss that house but we sure have a great place now!

Ye' olde homestead!

7. We made a very exciting announcement:

6.  Amelia took her first flight!  We took up Papa's plane and had quite the joyride!  Of course she fell asleep about halfway thru it!

5. I Ran my first 5K ever!  Our Friend Josh and I ran the Warrior dash Nebraska! It was a fun, muddy time!

4. Beth and I celebrated our 10th anniversary!

3. Aunt Naynay and Uncle Jay got married!!  Amelia was a flower girl and pierson was the (only slightly uncooperative) ring bearer.  They looked adorable and the wedding was great!

2.  Eleanor Rae was born!  November 6, 2012 weighing 6 lbs 3 oz!

1.  We are just having a blast living the life!  It is busy and somedays it seems like we never have enough hours in the day, but we couldn't ask for a better life!

Pumpkin Patch

We went to Roca Berry Farm for the first time as a family. Amelia went to a pumpkin patch last year at daycare, but this was the first time for the rest of us!! A good time was had by all!!!

Amelia LOVED these big air pillows they had for jumping! (I liked them, too, but fortunately no one got a picture of me jumping!)

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe...

They had an area full of corn kernels (like a sandbox), it was pretty fun until P tried to eat the kernels! Amelia also enjoyed taking pocketful of kernels over to the pigs and feeding them!

She attempted a "corn angel" (only in Nebraska....!)

Happy boy!!

The pigs (she's probably feeding them pilfered corn)....

My little pumpkins with some pumpkins

Pierson LOVED this slide and would squeal and jump up and down in my arms when we hit the stairs to do it again!

Hayrack ride

P was ready to go home!!

We are in trouble....

*We were visiting family in Kansas a couple of weeks ago. Amelia has been digging for gold in her nose so much lately--we struggle with it and trying to keep her fingers outta there! Well, it was a typical day where we had to keep reminding her to stop mining, and that evening, I caught her with her hand in my Mom's new cup of ice water. She was trying to fetch a piece of ice.
Me: Amelia, get your hand out of grandma's water! That's rude to stick your
hand in other people's drinks!! Mom, you'll need to get new water, she
had her hand in it.
Amelia: Uh, Mom, the boogers are on THIS hand (holding up the hand that was
not in Mom's cup!)

I never even said anything about boogers on her hand or in mom's water!! Clearly she thought this through.... clearly, we're in trouble if she's this smart already....

*Amelia having a conversation with my mom:
Amelia: My daddy is 21 years old.
My Mom: No, he's 31 years old.

After arguing back and forth with mom for a bit:
Amelia: I'm going to ask my mom....

She comes back to my mother:
Amelia: Well. I guess I was wrong then.

Say what?

The other day, Amelia told me, "I want to 'eclect' leaves like on Wow-wubzy." It took me a bit to realize she meant "collect." I told her we'd get a tub for her to put stuff she finds outside in, so she can have a collection of leaves.

Pierson is (already?!?!?) 9 months!!!

We had Pierson's 9-month check up last week. The boy is 18lbs 1oz, 26.5inches. Still in the 2nd %ile for length, 25th for his weight, and of course, his head is still his biggest feature at around the 50th %ile!

He's always on the move, and playing hard! He's got 2 bottom teeth, and I'm pretty sure he's working on the top two as we speak.

He says "Dada" and "Mama", albeit very rarely. He's definitely not the Chatty Cathy that Amelia was at this age. He claps for fun and dances when music is on. He's totally on table foods and eats almost everything we do. He had pureed foods for about 4 weeks, and was ready to move on. He prefers to feed himself, and will often turn away if you try to feed him.

He's growin' so fast!!

2 ways I know that Amelia is our kid

So as most of you know Beth and I both talk in our sleep sometimes. So about a week ago I went to wake up Amelia to get ready to go. First attempt went like this:

Me: Amelia it's time to wake up...
Amelia: (sits up quickly and looks all around) Where did all the popscicles go?

She them immediatly laid back down and fell back to sleep.

Second Attempt (after I left her room and stopped laughing) went like this:

Me: Amelia! It's time to get up!
Amelia: (this time without moving) Just one more cookie Daddy! Please!!!

I was cracking up hardcore at this point! What a great way to start the day!
